LSF Used as Part of £150million York Student Accommodation Scheme

Progress is being made on a new, purpose built student accommodation (PBSA) scheme in York, utilising light steel frame construction.

The development, known as Rialto House, will include 275 student bedrooms over 80,000sq ft and is one of two projects for which developers Olympian Homes has secured £150million in funding.

Once complete, students will have access to a gym, yoga studio, cinema, games room, co-working, group dining facilities and landscaped courtyards. GMI Construction is overseeing the building work, with MetStructures installing the LSF. Completion is for set for the 2025 academic year.

Speaking of the development, Olympian Homes said: “[We] are thankful for the proactive nature of Leeds City Council & York City Council in sharing our vision and addressing the major supply/demand imbalance of PBSA within these cities. We look forward to commencing works onsite whilst continuing working with the local community and remaining a long-term stakeholder within both cities.

“The deal also highlights the confidence in bringing forward major investment into the PBSA sector, demonstrating its resilience during a challenging economic climate. We appreciate the boldness of our partners, Cain International, for sharing our sentiment and believe this will be the start of a strong, long-term partnership.”
