LIDL LAUNCHES NEW STORE AND APARTMENT COMPLEX

DESIGNERS FROM GERMAN INTERNATIONAL DISCOUNT RETAILER LIDL HAVE WORKED WITH EPSOM COUNCIL TO DEVELOP A SCHEME SUITABLE FOR THE LOCAL AREA. DELIVERING THE BEST UTILISATION OF THE SITE – THE SCHEME WILL CREATE A NEW STORE WITH WAREHOUSE, CHILLER AND BAKERY ALONG WITH EIGHT ONE, EIGHTEEN TWO AND FOUR THREEBEDROOM APARTMENTS.

Adston Construction were nominated the overall contractor for the build, and they awarded the steel framing package to Blueberry Projects. Ayrshire Metals’ sales and design teams collaborated with Blueberry to deliver a fast-track build method to meet the timescale demands of the project.

With over 100 years of experience, the Ayrshire Group can be relied upon to deliver the design and manufacture of light gauge steel sections for any scheme. Ayrshire carried out initial design, feasibility studies and structural calculations, utilising their in-house engineers and CAD team. The cold-rolled steel was then produced at their advanced manufacturing facility in Daventry, Northamptonshire. Ayrshire’s design team were involved heavily in the early stage of the tendering process. This provided a cost-efficient solution that met the architect’s requirements for the specified wall types.

By involving Ayrshire Metals early in the process, it allowed the various design teams to collaborate in overcoming any issues, enabling a fast and efficient install of the light steel framing system (SFS).

Ayrshire Metals also deliver CPD’s to architects and engineering companies, along with toolbox talks to main contractors and installers, thereby educating best methods and practices within the industry. This allows individuals not only to understand the benefits of using light steel framing but to explain how to build fast and light, while saving time and money on material and design costs. This helps to overcome any common misconceptions within the industry regarding the limitations of using cold rolled steel sections. It shows how versatile the systems are and how sections can be used for a number of projects across a wide range of sectors.

2021 has created a changing and challenging landscape for many aspects of the construction industry. Supply shortages and cost increases on most materials resulted in longer lead times and price increases. This coupled with the need to make certain of compliance with the necessary regulations can prove difficult when some products have not been available. Ayrshire Metals have overcome these challenges by working extremely closely with supply chain partners to maintain a good level of steel availability.

Ayrshire’s ability to provide fire test details for up to two hours on through-wall build-ups, reduces lead times and accelerates design turnarounds, improving the ability for projects to hit the required target dates.
