Fusion Develops Acoustic Specification Guide

Noise is a recognised nuisance affecting the health and wellbeing of people occupying a range of building types. The issues are well documented. According to figures published by Churchill Home Insurance, in 2018, around 580,000 statutory nuisance complaints were filed with local councils across the UK, 48% of which related to noise.

Increasingly, homes are being filled with more noisy products and gadgets, home entertainment systems and larger TV sizes. Homes are not showing any signs of getting quieter. Aware to this fact, Fusion Building Systems have developed their own Acoustic Specification Guide to help clients and designers understand the acoustic ratings of their light gauge steel frame systems.

Head of Sales and Business Development at Fusion, David Ellison commented:

"At Fusion, we understand the importance of buildings and the effect poor acoustics can have on the wellbeing of the occupants. Having provided light gauge steel frame systems for over 20 years we have the experience to provide guidance on the acoustic solutions for our clients' needs. I regularly get asked questions about the acoustic values on products, so we decided to compile this guide. It provides relevant data clients and specifiers need to help them make the right decisions for their projects. We really hope this guide will prove useful to our clients and help them achieve the acoustic values they need for their projects. I am pleased to say, that in most cases during testing, the acoustic performance of our products were shown to exceed the required ratings."

The information found in the guide was developed in conjunction with Fusion clients and suppliers and matches the details within the Robust Details handbook. The guide is clearly laid out with graphics highlighting which products meet building regulations, which ones provide the +5dB above Building Regulations and meet the RD standards and where (in many cases) the Fusion solution provides improvements of +10dB above Building Regulations requirements.

The guide can be downloaded from the Fusion website, https://www.fusionbuild.com/downloads/ along with other useful guides including the Fusion Fire Specification Guide, which provides design guidance for fire protection of Fusion's products, including FusionX, a fully tested, non-combustible light gauge steel frame solution.

The team at Fusion are on hand to discuss either the acoustic values or the fire resistance levels for their light gauge steel frame systems and can be contacted here Contact – Fusion Building Systems
