Ayrshire Metals Loadbearing System Utilised at Muntham School

When Kenward Groundworks were appointed main contractor to design and build a therapy unit at Muntham School, they needed a reputable manufacturer to provide a cost-effective solution. Step in Ayrshire Metals.

Ayrshire carried out initial design, feasibility studies and structural calculations, utilising their in-house engineers and CAD team.

By involving Ayrshire Metals early in the process, it allowed the various design teams to collaborate in overcoming any issues, enabling a fast and efficient install of the light steel framing system.

With over 100 years of experience, the Ayrshire Group can be relied upon to carry out the design and manufacture of light steel sections for any scheme.

There were several challenges on this project, not least the ever-rising costs and limited availability of products. Ayrshire metals were able to work alongside both Kenward Groundworks and E&C Engineering to make sure the build was a cost-effective as possible by designing the complete building as light steel with the exception of a pitched timber roof.

Another challenge in the design was that it included a child swing in the therapy unit, meaning there was a significant loading concentrated to a single point in the joist. Together with the help of Ayrshire's design team, Kenward managed to find a solution to this quickly, not holding up any other aspects of the programme.

This project was so successful in both design and construction, Ayrshire and Kenward have coupled up again on a further classroom at Muntham School so look out for further updates!
