Plasyfelin Primary School, currently under development by BAM Construction, will become Caerphilly County Borough Council’s first Net Zero school. Jointly funded by Caerphilly Council and the Welsh Government through the Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme, the development sets a new benchmark for sustainable education buildings in Wales.

Appointed by BAM Construction, Frameclad designed, engineered and manufactured the ECO-LSF infill system, helping to deliver the project’s ambitious Net Zero environmental objectives.

ECO-LSF represents the next generation of sustainable light steel framing. Manufactured from 100% recycled steel using Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) technology powered by renewable energy, it significantly reduces embodied carbon while delivering the same proven strength, durability, safety and performance as conventional light steel frame systems.

Building on Frameclad’s long-standing commitment to sustainability, where our steel has traditionally contained around 60% recycled content, ECO-LSF takes carbon reduction even further. Often described as ‘green steel’, it offers a practical route to lowering whole-life carbon without compromising safety, quality, compliance or buildability.

The Plasyfelin Primary School project demonstrates how intelligent design and advanced offsite manufacturing can support the delivery of high-performance, low-carbon educational facilities. As part of a wider Place Shaping programme, the new school will provide a sustainable learning environment while showcasing how innovative construction technologies can help public sector projects meet ambitious Net Zero targets.

As a leading BOPAS-accredited manufacturer, Frameclad are committed to achieving the highest quality standards, manufacturing all products in a state-of-the-art 50,000 sqft framing facility, fully compliant with EN 1090-1: 2009 + AL: 2011 CE accreditation.
