When Tekbuild were approached by this client the project was a 90s office block which they wanted to add a three storey top-box air space as the need for student living space was required in the area. The project was to remove the pre-existing pitched roof and adding a hot roll grillage that transfers to ground floor with columns and infilled LGS (Light Gauge Steel) cassettes. From there Tekbuild added a fully loadbearing structure of 3 additional floors, floor cassettes with OSB 3 subfloor finish, walls fitted with A1 non-combustible sheathing board.
The Response
With building on top of an old 90s structure with traditional methods there could be structural issues with the older building being unable to carry the load. Therefore, whilst working on this project the client realised this and asked Tekbuild to help; we offered a 140 tonne package supply and install of the hot roll reinforcement making it a multidisciplined scheme working hand in hand with all of the structural elements of the building. The package included the supply of all lift shafts and stair cases within the building and with the additional three floors the client was able to add an additional 102 rooms for the structure.
