The Theatre Royal finally reopens its doors after a £60 million refurbishment!

We were honoured back in 2019 to be asked to deliver the Tekla Modelling and Detailing of all structural aspects of this impressive and sympathetic refurbishment, of the West End’s oldest theatre! The restoration took place over 2 years in total and the timing of it’s reopening was just perfect, following the industries lift on restrictions following the pandemic.

The iconic venue, which dates back more than 350 years, has hosted numerous showstopping premiers over the years starring theatre royalty… but its history meant it was in desperate need of improvements that amounted to a staggering £60 million in final costs.

As you can imagine, the project didn’t come without its challenges, but we successfully delivered all the structural design and detailing elements which included 3D models for:

Structural

  • Structural steel for the Auditorium boxes, including the Royal Box
  • Dumbwaiter shaft steel frame
  • Strengthening works to the Grand Saloon
  • Rooflight framing steelwork

Architectural

  • Auditorium box balustrade
  • Auditorium box access steps
  • Facility panel frames
  • External signage support frames

You can find out more about the project in our original case study HERE
