Back by popular demand, Focus on Framing will return on the 04 June to bring together the pioneers in the construction industry who are delivering some of the most exciting and innovative light steel framing projects!

Darren Richards - Event Chair

Managing Director | Cogent Consulting

Darren Richards, MD of Cogent Consulting, is an offsite manufacturing expert with nearly 25 years' experience developing offsite businesses, processes and products. Formerly Manufacturing Director at Elliot Group producing modular buildings, he worked in Japan with leading modular housing manufacturers and had an advisory role on the Egan Taskforce. In 2000 he founded Mtech Group, spearheading the Advantage Offsite initiative and founding Buildoffsite before selling the business in 2008. Darren founded Cogent Consulting in 2009.

Preconstruction Manager | Kier Group

Rebecca Wade is preconstruction manager for Kier Strategic Projects, actively advocating a design for manufacture and assembly approach across a variety of high-profile schemes. She is passionate about exceeding client expectations and developing positive industry partnerships that foster innovation.

Rebecca has worked across a number of sectors including health, defence, custodial and student accommodation, including managing Kier's £55m Waterside Student Residence project through first and second stage tenders until start-on-site.

Phil Jasper

Business Unit Director | Kingspan Steel Building Solutions

Off-Site industry expert with over 30 years of experience, 20 years of experience with a market leading Timber frame company where progression was accelerated through the commercial team. In 2009 Phil joined the Light Steel Construction business within Kingspan as Construction Director and was promoted to Business Unit Director in 2013.

Phil will be presenting a case study on Fallowfield Student Park.

Daniel will be discussing how to utilise modern methods of construction for transformation and growth.

Technical Director | 3E Consulting Engineers

Peter is a Structural Engineering Consultant with a specialism in the design of Light Steel Frame and Modular Construction and a Stage 2 Certifier on behalf of the NHBC.

His projects to date include:

Simple low-rise panelised structures to complex medium rise volumetric student accommodation.

Lattice portal structures in remote Mongolia to residential accommodation in urban Kinshasa, DRC.

Peters experience as both an external consultant as well as a in house engineer give him a unique set of skills and experience when designing with light steel frame. At Focus on Framing Peter will be asking the question, what is possible with light steel framing?

Nicola is Chartered Member of the institution of both Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

As Technical Director of the structural and civil engineering company AKT II, Nicola is responsible for the technical control of the projects and for leading the technical agenda within the practice.

In particular his focus is on the modern methods of construction, sustainability and composite materials. Part of his role is promoting research projects which can provide useful information for the construction industry.

At Focus on Framing Nicola will be presenting on Hybrid Structures.

Peter will be discussing 'why would you specify untested solutions?' alongside Richard Wilson from Siniat.

With over 13 years in the modular/volumetric industry and 6 years in the load bearing LGSF industry, David is well placed to voice opinion and experience with offsite manufacturing.

David joined SIGMAT in August 2014 when the Company turnover was £9m. His remit was to grow the business. Turnover has increased to £16m in 2015, £23m in 2016 and just under £30m in 2017.

David will be presenting on Perry Barr Redevelopment alongisde Paul Burchell from Willmott Dixon.

The presentation will describe NHBC's approach to assessment of LSF structures as used in residential construction. I will cover NHBC certification process, MMC definition & our assessment process, examples of accepted systems, and some of the on-going challenging issues we are dealing with in LSF i.e. fire and vibration issues.

Brian is the Technical Director at Richard Hopkinson Architects, an award winning based in London and Kent, with 26 years' experience in architecture & construction. Brian's particular expertise lies in developing optimal solutions for the technological and construction challenges of projects, whether these are traditional delivery or off-site / DfMA projects.

Michael Swiszczowski

Director | Chapman Taylor

Michael is a Chartered Architect, and joined Chapman Taylor in 2016 to strengthen the practice's residential expertise, becoming Associate Director later that year. He has experience working on award-winning residential projects, with a particular focus on Build-to-Rent, student accommodation and modular construction.

Michael is responsible for a number of city centre Build-to-Rent schemes. His experience in this growing sector, alongside his involvement in the completion of Chapman Taylor's first fully modular building project, has led to Michael developing the practice's own off-site housing model, Umbrellahaus®. He is also a RIBA-elected member of the Regional Council for RIBA North-West, and speaks regularly at panel events.

Chapman Taylor works collaboratively with Build-to-Rent clients, operators and stakeholders to achieve the very best design solutions. Using Building Information Modelling (BIM) in conjunction with the latest Virtual Reality technology, Chapman Taylor provides designs which are perfectly tailored to the needs of clients and residents alike.
